July 4   Julie Rust: "The Importance of Sharing Our Gifts" A spiritual theme with music.

July 11   Doug Traversa: “Worship and Prayer When God is a Mystery - Do These Words Have Meaning in a Pluralistic Religion like
Unitarian           Universalism?”

July 18   Homer Wilkins: "'No Man is an Island'---if He Builds Bridges" John Donne's "No man is an island, entire of itself" stands in
stark contrast to Kahlil Gibran's "Your life is an island separated from all other islands and regions." The two opposing points of
view can be reconciled by the concept (and actuality) of bridging. In this service we explore three kinds of bridges: a) person to
person ties; b) ties between cultural groups and even nations; and c) bridges between the different stages of one's own life. In the
latter case, the central importance of one's faith will be emphasized, where we mean by "faith" that basic set of presuppositions that
guide our lives. The ability to build and maintain such bridges is an important aspect of being human. The discussion will be
illustrated by several human stories.

July 25   Doug Traversa: “My Visit to Meadville Lombard Theological School –
What is the State of our Main Unitarian Universalist Seminary, and What Does the Future Hold for our Association?” (Potluck Lunch
afterwards)

BOARD MEETING
The July 11 board meeting will start at 12:15 at the home of Betsy Webb.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
At the congregational meeting on June 27, the proposed 2010-2011 budget was approved.

A WORD FROM THE LAY MINISTER: Doug Traversa
I am once again proud to see how our members have shown their support for our church and its ministry by pledging enough
money to meet our proposed 2011 budget.  With virtually no discussion, and certainly no arm twisting, everyone has shown that this
church matters to them, so much so that even in economic hard times, we can operate without cutting anything from our proposed
budget.  This is quite remarkable, and I want to stress to you how rare this is.  Churches throughout our association put huge
amounts of effort into canvassing the congregations.  We don’t.  We make the need know, and you respond.  Generously.  Quickly.
Dare I say, “Boldly?”  We as a congregation are moving ahead into an exciting future.  Clearly, we do this with enthusiastic support.  I
am thrilled to belong to such a wonderful congregation, and look forward to see what the next year holds for us.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Chuck Morgret
For the month of May, our operating income was $2,412.31 and operating expenses were $1,766.91. Our operating income for
the fiscal year (which began July 1) to date is $26,120.41 and operating expenses are $24,912.95. (Our planned operating budget
for the fiscal year is $29,987.)
June expenses will include our district dues of $800 and our planned transfer of $1000 to the New Church fund. Including those
expenses, we expect to end this year with an operating deficit of up to $1,500. Given the budget growth we have had over the last two
years, and that we began the fiscal year with approximately $11,000 in operating reserves, this is not a bad outcome.
Outside the operating budget, we received $225 in contributions for the Joshua Landtroop Trust Fund, a $20 contribution to the UUA
Tennessee/Kentucky Flood Relief Fund, $107 in pass-through donations to local charities from our Last Sunday potluck, and a
$350 prepaid pledge for our next fiscal year. Expenses outside the operating budget included a $50 pass-through contribution to the
UUA Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, a $100 pass-through contribution to Good Samaritan, and $80 for lawn care from a designated
contribution. (We have since received additional donations for both the Joshua Landtroop Trust Fund, bringing the total to $900, and
the Flood Relief Fund, bringing the total to $50, and have sent contributions in those amounts. (Thanks to all who contributed!)
We have successfully completed our pledge drive! With a couple of late revisions, our proposed operating budget total was
$32,329, and the pledge goal to support that amount was $24,589. As of June 20, our total pledges reached $24,650. Of that
amount, $3,150 has been paid in advance, which will help us to begin the year without any early cash flow problems. The
congregation officially approved the budget on June 27. On behalf of the board, THANK YOU to all who pledged!
